Hyosung Poketone is the only engineering plastic composed entirely of carbon in its backbone chain. It has a compact crystalline structure and exhibits excellent impact resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, fuel resistance and gas barrier properties.

Food contact

Hyosung Chemical’s polyketone is free from harmful substances, making it safe for food contact applications.
It offers superior longevity even when exposed to periodic sterilization and disinfection agents compared to conventional materials.

    Traditionally, POM (acetal) has been used for food conveyor parts and water purifier parts. However, due to the leaching issue of formaldehyde, there was a demand from the industry to replace it with harmful substance-free materials, and Polyketon began to be applied to materials in the food industry.

    Polyketone Food Grade (F GRADE) is not only FDA certified but also USP CLASS VI and ISO 10993 certified, guaranteeing its safety. In accordance with European drinking water certifications (KTW, ACS, and WRAS), it expands its applications to various food and water industries.

Applications

  • Food Conveyor Parts

    Due to excellent chemical and impact resistance, it has a longer replacement cycle than other materials, so it is used for food conveyor belts.

  • Toys

    It is used for toys as it does not break when dropped and it is not dangerous even if children put it in their mouth or grab and pull it.

  • Water Purifier Parts

    Harmful substances do not flow out in cold water as well as warm water, maintaining their stable condition without dimensional change even when in contact with water for long periods by absorbing less water.

Applications

  • Gear

    Due to high abrasion resistance, it has a long service life and has good economic energy absorption, thereby generating little noise. In addition, in comparison with nylon, it generates less noise by dimensional changes between parts.

  • Mining Components

    Polyketone is used as a liner to prevent corrosion of metal mining pipes used for underground drilling of oil and natural gas, increasing oil flow rates by employing sucker rod guides to enhance drilling volume. Polyketone boasts excellent oil resistance and corrosion resistance, extending the service life of metal equipment parts used in mining.

Automotive

Polyketone is highly resistant to the environment where is exposed to chemical substances, such as fuel system substances and antifreeze, and is highly insulated, thus making it suitable for automotive parts.

    It offers improved flowability compared to conventional materials, enabling the molding of fine and thin parts and its fast solidification rate reduces cycle time. Additionally, its excellent elastic resilience ensures connectors can be repeatedly attached and detached without breaking.

Extrusion

Applications

    It can be utilized as a liner for mining and oil pipelines since it is durable in situations of being exposed to fuel system substances.
